Anyone who watched the first episode of “American Horror Story: Freak Show” this past Wednesday knows that Twisty the Clown is perhaps the most terrifying character the show has ever developed. And that’s only after the first episode. The John Wayne Gacy/It hybrid is as disturbing as it gets.

Much to the dismay of coulrophobics everywhere, the small town of Wasco, Calif., has had a number of hellish, albeit harmless, clown sightings over the past two weeks.

One of the clowns sighted was actually a photography project started by a local husband and wife, but the couple has inspired copycats. Little is known about the other appearances, besides the fact that they’re horrifying.

Everything about this sucks. The fact that they’re harmless is still terrifying. There have been reports of at least three other clowns in Wasco and neighboring towns, often wielding balloons, silently sauntering through parks and ill-lit parking lots in the dead of night.

The clowns have an Instagram and a Facebook account, but posts are relatively limited.
